Microsoft Windows XP Extended Support Ends in One Year - Are you Ready?

Extended support for Microsoft XP ends in one year, on 8 April 2014.  Windows XP was released on October 25, 2001 - 11 years ago.

The end of extended support means the end of security updates as well as technical support from Microsoft.  Clients have a few options:
  • Migrate to a newer version of Windows: Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Many clients are choosing to upgrade to Windows 7.  Personally, I prefer Windows 8 which offers fast boot times on par with smartphones and tablets, new security feature including secure boot as well as a new "touch" user interface.
  • Migrate to another operating system like Apple Macintosh or Linux
  • Migrate to a smartphone or tablet
  • All of the above
With one year to complete the migration off Windows XP, time is running out.  While much has been said for the end of the post PC era at the expense of smartphones and tablets, the PC remains a key requirement for most enterprises and continues to evolve with new features and capabilities.

IBM offers a free, online self assessment tool to help identify ways to increase worker productivity and reduce costs through a flexible workplace.   See how you compare to other enterprises!  Are you forward thinker or a laggard?
