Create an Ajax-based IM client

A new article on Developerworks on creating an Ajax-based IM client.   At Lotusphere 2008, Lotus demoed an Ajax-based Sametime client in the lab.  Will this eventually ship to customers and replace the Java-based Sametime Connect for Browsers client?
